Subject: Announcing a new version of the X11 Address Book (XAB)

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I have uploaded a new version of the X11 based address book (XAB). This
is a bug fix version and there is no addtional features. If you have
downloaded it before and are happy with it, I suggest that you do not
download. The new version can be found in my web site

   <URL:http://www.netcom.com/~asav/>;

Most of the changes since the first version has been made to fix minor
coding bugs and to address portability issues.

What is XAB ?
- -------------
XAB is another addition to numerous other address books that are already
available for the Linux/Unix world. It uses Athena widget library
(libXaw, libXaw3d, etc.) and requires X11 to run on the system. Using
XAB, you can store information and can sort them into folders,
sub-folders, etc. - a feature which is not found in most other address
books. I have compiled and run it on Linux (Intel), Linux (AXP), SCO
Openserver and HP/UX. Others have reported to me that they have ported
it to Solaris, Sun OS and SGI platforms.

Announcing a Java-based Address Book (tentatively named JAB)
- ------------------------------------------------------------
You can also download a beta version of standalone Java-based address
book from the above web site. It functions almost like XAB but looks and
feels different. The JAB addresses are stored in an ASCII file and
therefore can be manipulated using a standard editor like vi in case of
problems. Another good thing about JAB is that the information field can
be as big as you want, no limitations whatsoever. I must warn that this
is an early beta and some of the "killer" features have not been
implemented yet and there may be some bugs. I have used jdk-1.0.2.2-2 to
compile but I am sure it will work with higher versions of the JDK. If
you manage to run it on other platforms other than linux, please send me
an email.

Please keep on sending bug reports. Note that there is no warranty,
whatsoever for the above software.

Thanks.
