Uncle George,
Just tested your jdk115_alpha_50_v2 against my stuff (various AWT
components, graphics, 3D rendering), and it actually works! Amazing
that Lesstif works this well, I've seen it fail badly on other things.
Your JVM on Alpha is faster than the x86 JVM on Pentium here (which
has the assembly optimized VM) :-). It's running here on RH5 with
kernel 2.1.86 on an XLT machine.
There are cosmetic problems (no kidding:), here goes:
- Permissions in the classes directories are wrong (the . entry in all
classes subdirs are without read access for others).
- It seems fvwm2 (2.0.46) is terribly confused about the windows; it
apparently doesn't understand size or other properties. As a result,
the initial (AWT) resize completely squashes windows, the window
borders look wrong, and most window ops (in fvwm2 menus) are disabled
(even 'move'!). (Anyone have better experiences with other WMs?)
- appletviewer doesn't work (not that I care...).
Didn't try jdb or other things yet.
Excellent work!
- Reinoud
