From: lsn95r@mira.knirsch.de (Liang-Shing Ng) Subject: Malaysia offers Linux CPU Farm -- Cheap! Date: 18 Feb 1998 17:34:53 -0000 Hi, Partly inspired by the success story of Linux in the motion picture Titanic, I start to wonder if it would be a cost effective venture if CPU farms could be set up in countries with low labour and real estate costs so that the computation intensive tasks are run in those countries. I am a Malaysian. I think my country offers just the right criteria for people with this particular need. For example, if you are a start up graphics designer or motion picture artist in L.A., New York or London, you would not neccessary have enough capital to buy 200 Digital Alphas and the time to set up the parallel processing facilities. So we could do the tough part of the job for you. We have enough proficient technical people there. We also have quite a bit of capital to go round. And we have very open policy towards technical ventures c.f. other countries in the Indian Ocean. The people speak, read and write English fluently. The country is peaceful and orderly. And we are preparing to build ***the first Cyber city*** in the world FROM SCRATCH. (Just visit any official Malaysian web site e.g. http://www.jaring.my and you will find buzzwords like "Multimedia Super Corridor" and "CyberJaya"). So if you have a motion picture project in the pipeline, or in fact any other CPU intensive work!!, Malaysia might be your next destination. You could relax in the beaches or the tropical rain forest while your Linux Alphas are churning out the bits and pixels of your art work. Malaysia -- where sandy beach, rubber trees, paddy fields and the Linux CPU farms live next to each other! :) Please write to me if you are interested. Yours, Liang from Southampton
