From: pquiney@clara.net (Phil Quiney) Subject: PC Plus Offer Linux Coverage Date: Sat, 07 Mar 1998 22:31:44 GMT As a subscriber to PC Plus I get the issue a few days before it hits the newsagents. In response to some mail regarding the use of 'alternative' OSs the editor of PC Plus stated (sorry about the copyright) "To be honest, it didn't surprise us when these comments prompted several Linux devotees to respond ... we experienced a similar backlash when we scaled down our OS/2 coverage. Users of these operating systems tend to be a very vocal minority! There is no doubt that Linux is interesting. There is also little doubt that it's capable. We have considerable doubt though that it is of wide enough interest to warrant much coverage... However, we are not so arrogant that we believe we know better than our readers what they want. So, I'll make a deal with the Linux brigade. I am prepared to consider including Linux on the SuperCD, and running just the sort of tutorial coverage you suggest (original letter not quoted here) plus ongoing coverage in the magazine. For this to happen, though, I need to see feedback from enough people to convince me it is worthwhile. We would have to make a substantial investment in this project, and I am not prepared to do this on the strength of three e-mails... So, if you have an opinion either way, please e-mail me (dave.pearman@futurenet.co.uk) with the word Linux in the title. We will also put a link on our web site (http://www.pcplus.co.uk) for people to respond. Now it is up to you!" OK guys let's make use of this offer....
