LessTif 0.83 has just been released.

LessTif is a freely available Motif clone. It is aimed for source level
compatibility with Motif 1.2. Some Motif 2.0 features are also
available. We may also be able to achieve binary compatibility.

LessTif is distributed under the terms of the GNU Library General
Public License (LGPL).

We distribute LessTif as source; a couple of binary distributions for
several platforms are made available a couple of days after the source
release.

LessTif is known to work on many platforms, including AIX, BSD/OS,
Digital UNIX, FreeBSD, HP/UX, Linux, MkLinux, NetBSD, OpenBSD, OS/2,
Solaris, SunOS, and Windows (using the CygWin32 environment).

What's new since release 0.82 ?
-------------------------------
Many things have changed because a release was long overdue :

* New configuration based on the GNU configuration tools automake,
  autoconf, libtool. You don't need to install any of these tools in
  order to compile   LessTif, though.
* Menu system : it is more stable, and better support for keyboard
  interaction with menus was added.
* In the M*tif 2.0 compatibility area, a couple of things happened. The
  XmeDrawArrow routine was improved. The size calculation of XmComboBox
  was improved.
* The scripts/mmf will rebuild the Makefile in the directory in which
  your run the script. It's much faster than rebuilding all the
  Makefiles by running configure on the whole distribution.
* There is now a XmPanedWindowWidget in the 2.0 directory as well; it
  is nearly the same as the 1.2 version : the only difference is an
  additional resource (XmNorientation). Xinvest uses this.
* XmNotebook (also in 2.0, see below) is beginning to do sensible
  things. It uses some of the traits in sensible ways, and can be used
  to display pages and page through them using both a SpinBox and tabs.
* Placement of the XmComboBox scrolled list is now correct. However,
  the initial size calculation of the scrolled list is incorrect.
* You can build from other directories than LessTif's root directory.
  You can use this to build for several platforms, or a debug vs. a
  production version.
* Binary distributions now also contain the information from the web
  site. (At least a snapshot of it taken at release time.)
* Added a couple of manual pages donated by Ray Dassen.
