Linux] Installation direct from SuSE's servers Hi, Joshua Rodman wrote: > > I'm sure I'm asking a tired question, but I've tried to do my homework. > > The question is: how can one install SuSE packages from the central > distribution places? ie. ftp.suse.com I'm sorry, but this seems to be a 'hidden undocumented feature' of YaST... Here is how it works.... * Start YaST and go to Choose/Install packages -> Install packages * Press 'Return' and select 'FTP' as source (this is the 'hidden' part..) * Now select server and directory you want to install from, default is 'ftp.suse.com:/pub/SuSE-Linux/suse_update' which is OK for finding updated packages * press return again, and you'll get a file select box like menu, where you can choose the packages you want to have. The rest is pretty straight forward...
